India kicks off 2021 with promising releases
Indian cinema has some promising films and web series to showcase as the world welcomes a new year, 2021. From Pankaj Tripathi directed Kaagaz to Renuka Shahane’s directorial project Tribhanga, we take a look at some of the releases expected in Q1 2021. These include theatrical releases, first digital releases as well as web series.
Tribhanga – Tedhi Medhi Crazy (Movie, January 15)
Renuka Shahane directed the film starring Kajol, Tanvi Azmi and Mithila Palkar in a story that revolves around women. He delves deep into the dysfunctional life of a matriarch (Azmi), her daughter (Kajol) and her granddaughter (Palkar).
Tandav (Web series, January 15)
Created by Ali Abbas Zafar (renowned Bharat), the series was written by Gaurav Solanki. The nine-episode series features Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Zeeshan Ayyub, Sunil Grover, among others, in the intense and dark political thriller.
Madam Chief Minister (Film, January 22)
Richa Chadha surprised fans by presenting her new film with a poster. Directed by filmmaker Subhash Kapoor, it is meant to be the story of a young political leader who is struggling to climb the hierarchical ladder.
The White Tiger (Film, January 22)
The highly anticipated Priyanka Chopra-Rajkummar Rao series lands on Netflix
Jeet Ki Zid (Web-series, January 22)
Created by Vishal Mangalorkar, the series stars Amit Sadh. It is said to be based on a true story about the courage, determination of the Indian military.
The Family Man Season 2 (Web series, February 12)
Actors Manoj Bajpayee and Sharib Hashmi return with the second season of their popular series, The family man, for Amazon Prime
Ram Prasad Ki Terhvi (Film, January 1)
Directed by beginning actor-turned-filmmaker Seema Pahwa, the film received widespread critical acclaim. The film features mainstays like Naseeruddin Shah and Supriya Pathak in the lead roles and the film hit theaters on January 1.
Nail polish (Film, January 1)
Starring Manav Kaul, the film has already been released on ZEE5. It landed online on January 1. Starring Manav Kaul and Arjun Rampal, Anand Tiwari Ranjit Kapoor in the lead roles, the film explores the uncertainties of the human mind. Mr. Kaul gave an outstanding performance in the film.
Kaagaz (Film, January 7)
Actor-director Satish Kaushik wrote and directed the Salman Khan productions backed film and uploaded Jan. 7. Pankaj Tripathi plays the central character – a man who struggles to prove he’s alive, on paper. Based on the journey of a real person, Kaagaz raises several important and touching questions that continue to plague Indian society and the Indian system even in our time. While the film has its flaws, it is Mr. Tripathi’s performance that wins hearts.
