I made a mistake when joining Gavin Hunt at Bidvest Wits
Al-Ahly lender and current Tala’a El-Gaish before Amr Gamal says he made a mistake in 2017 when he decided to join Bidvest Wits, then on the PSL side, on loan.
Egyptian Amr Gamal joined Tala’a El-Gaish in the 2019 transfer window and is spending his second season at the club on loan from Al Ahly.
Gamal, 29, had two overseas stays at Bidvest Wits FC and HJK Helsinki, winning the Telkom Knockout title in 2017 with the now disbanded South African club and the Finnish league with the latter.
Gamal chose to join Coach Gavin Hunt’s Bidvest Wits in hopes of gaining more playing time.
However, he now regrets this decision.
“I admit that when I discovered that Walid Azarou was starting at Al Ahly, I said to myself that I had to leave on loan, but choosing Bidvest was a mistake on my part”, Gamal told ON Sport FM.
“I thought I was helping myself that way. I could have chosen an Egyptian Premier League club instead of Bidvest and that would have helped me regain my form.
“I still have seven years to go. I have appeared in good shape this season and I challenge myself ”, he added.
Gamal has played 13 games in total for Bidvest Wits.
Following his move, Gamal became the first Egyptian to play in South Africa and remains the only one to do so to this day.
