Everton prefer loan for Harry Winks but Spurs want £20m

Everton have shown serious interest in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks. He was one of the players on Frank Lampard’s shortlist as the former Chelsea boss scoured the market for a ball playing deep in midfield.

Lampard wanted a similar profile when he took over at Goodison Park, prompting the Everton board to sign Donny Van de Beek on loan from Manchester United. The Toffees lack a deep midfield profile that can spin the ball around. Winks ticks all the boxes and has the skills to operate deep in midfield.

Spurs are hoping to make a midfield clearance after Yves Bissouma arrives. Winks has been told he is free to leave Tottenham. The 26-year-old is in the pecking order, playing fewer minutes than Pierre-Emile Hobjberg, Rodrigo Bentancur and Oliver Skipp last season. The arrival of Bissouma makes it extremely difficult for the English midfielder to succeed in his career at Tottenham.

Everton are seen as the favorites in the race to sign the Englishman. In fact, the two clubs had initial talks and a transfer is definitely on the cards. With the Merseysiders getting nowhere in their pursuit of Conor Gallagher, Winks remains one of their top priorities in midfield.

Everton prefer loan deal for Harry Winks

Talks have taken place and although Everton are keen to acquire Winks’ services, there is a difference of opinion on how the two clubs want to go through with the deal. According Charlie Eccleshare, Athletic’s Tottenham Hotspur correspondentEverton want the 26-year-old on loan while Spurs prefer a direct transfer for a fee of £20million.

Perhaps the Toffees are pushing for a loan deal due to the limited wiggle room they have with the transfer budget. It is clear that unless Everton make significant sales, they will not be able to freely spend large sums.

A sale of Richarlison or Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be the only tangible solution to calm the concerns of FFP and P&S. On the other hand, Spurs are reportedly looking to recoup the £25m they spent on Bissouma through the sale of Winks. Antonio Conte’s side have big aspirations and see Richarlison as one of their main targets for the summer.

It was further stated that since all parties want the move to take place, a compromise could be reached quickly. Lampard is also keen on Chelsea’s Billy Gilmour but so far Everton haven’t made any inroads towards the Scot.

Will a compromise soon be found between Spurs and Everton for Harry Winks?
